A Look Back at… Electro World [6th Anniversary]

Hi guys, and welcome to a new “A look back at…” article!

Did you know that yesterday June 28th was Electro World’s 6th anniversary? Considering how much progresses our girls have made to the top, it seems like it’s way more time!

Anyway, isn’it the best moment to talk about one of the best and most favorite Perfume songs ever?

Let’s start!

____________________________

Near Futuristic Technopop Unit

Electro World is the third Major and 8th overall single of Perfume’s Discography, and it’s been released on June 28th 2006. This single is the last piece of the “Near Futuristic trilogy” created by their producer Yasutaka Nakata and composed by the singles Linear Motor Girl, Computer City and Electro World.

This song is considered as one of the best Perfume songs ever for it’s futuristic vibe and upbeat rythm, and today it’s still one of the most played songs in all of their live shows as one of the songs that represents better the near futuristic technopop unit concept that raised Perfume in their early days.
The super energetic beat, the great singing of the girls perfectly synchronized with the various structure of the song, and the fast bridge that explodes into to the fresh chorus makes this song one of the best pieces of music produced by Nakata for the girls: If you’re watching a Perfume live show and you suddenly see all of the audience jumping like crazy and singing, you can be sure that the song playing is Electro World.

The coupling song for this single is Wonder 2, another well known song by the Perfume fans, also known as the “ballad” of Complete Best. Based on a very easy listening melody, this is one of the most touching Perfume songs, and it was usually used as ending track of their early concerts, and it’s still played today as one of the most quiet songs leading to the end of the show.

In a old Perfume interview, A-chan revealed that they started to see their popularity grow around the release of Electro World: Even though they weren’t still known nationwide, with the release of this single the girls got the chance to perform a show in the well known district of Akihabara in Tokyo; the girls managed to promote the show by themselves distributing flyers in the streets of Akihabara to the people passing by, a famous scene that can be found in many of the Perfume videos reminiscing their history as sign of their neverending strength of will.

Their sacrifices weren’t in vain… ;)

Electro World makes part of the series of Perfume’s classic songs, together with other masterpieces such as Polyrythm, Dream Fighter, Secret Secret and so on. It’s one of those tracks you should definitely make listen to the new comers to make them fall in love with this group, and also one of the best demonstrations of the concept of Near Futuristic Technopop unit.

It’s really easy to find this single as it’s still available everywhere, and once you’ll open your package you won’t do anything but admire the fantastic cover, definitely one of the best of Perfume’s discography. Links to purchase this release are just down here as always!

[ POLL OF THE WEEK # 7 ] Did you pre order the new Perfume single “Spending all my Time”?

It’s Monday again, and it’s time again for a new Perfume Disco weekly poll!
The question for last week’s poll was: “Waht would like to see int he future of Perfume?”

Here we go with the results!

Last week’s results!

Apparently most of the fans want the girls to focus on their future overseas activities, and that’s legit of course! I think the girls are building step by step their stairway to the overseas audience, and the iTunes releases and the recent appearance as hosts and dancers at the VMAJ 2012 gave the girls even more exposure not only in their beloved country, but also overseas thanks to presence of many international artists at the event.

As for the other options we pretty much have at the same level a new TV series and a new photobook, followed immediately by a collaboration with other Japanese artists. While a new show similar to the good old Happy! / Chandelier House would be absolutely more than welcome by the Perfume fandom, a Photobook is probably something that we will to see in the future, and I wouldn’t be surprised if actually a new one will come out this year.

The last option was a free answer that you guys had created with a comment in the poll itself, and interesting things such as an acoustic/remix album, a DVD/Blu-Ray set with all of their PVs (fantastic), and P.T.A. open to overseas fans (that would be fantastic).

I’m glad this poll went really well, and it’s been interesting to see all of your opinions. :)

Now let’s go ahead with the new Perfume Disco Poll of the Week!

________________________________________________

NEW POLL OF THE WEEK

This week I’ve decided to ask you a very simple and actual question: As we all know a couple of days ago Perfume announced the new single called Spending all my Time, due to be released on August 15, and today pre-orders started on all of the major online stores.

The question is: Did you pre order the new Perfume single “Spending all my Time”?

There are many options available for everyone, and the poll is already open in the right sidebar as always!

Cast your vote right now and spread the voice! ;)

Perfume announces new single 「Spending all my time」 !

It’s been announced just half an hour ago on the Perfume Official Website that a new single called Spending all my Time will be released on August 15th, under the new Perfume Records label, sub-label of Universal Music!

There was already a rumour around the web since yesterday, and luckily it came out to be true! After a great day at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2012, this is really an exciting news that closes a great day for the Perfume fandom. Here is the announcement straight from the Official Website.

“Spending all my Time” announcement on the Perfume Official Website

Spending all my time is an all new and unknown Perfume song, and considering how we already got the chance to hear some short previews of Point and Hurly Burly thanks to the well known Kirin CMs, this is really something great and exciting to look for. Also, this is the first single after Linear Motor Girl that includes three different songs instead of two, which is obviously another good reason to already pre-order this single once it will appear on the most famous online websites. Oh, and did you see? The new Perfume Records logo has been unveiled… isn’t it cute? :3

As always there will be two editions, Regular and Limited, slightly more expensive than usual, but it’s a reasonable choice considering how there’s one song more.

What are your expectations? Finally we’ll have a new Perfume song to wait for and other two to finally discover completely! (We all know how much time we’ve waited to hear Point… right? :P )

Share your thoughts down here in the comments as usual, and stay tuned here on Perfume Disco for every news and update!

Have a nice weekend guys! :D

The VMAJ 2012 are here!

As you may alredy noticed, there’s no streaming of the VMAJ 2012 hosted by Perfume, but some videos and many pics are leaking on Twitter and YouTube, and down here you can find the stunning, beautiful and sexy opening act the girls performed just an hour ago. Enjoy!

The show will probably end in an hour or so, and once I’ll get my hands on some recording of the show or more infos overall, I will make an article or VLOG to give you my impressions to what it seems an amazing show. There are also many rumors running around the web, but before talking it’s better to wait and see. ;)
Stay tuned on Perfume Disco!

UPDATE

Perfume won the Best Dance Video and Best Choreography awards!!! CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!!! :D

A Look Back at… Fan Service: Bitter

Hi everybody, and welcome to another “A look back at…” article!

As you may remember, my first article of this weekly series was about the very important Maxi Single release called Fan Service: Sweet, first piece of a project that should have closed the career of our beloved girls, thing that luckily didn’t happen. So today I’m gonna analyze the second piece of this project called Fan Service: Bitter, which is also the very first Perfume Live DVD release. If you’re asking how the first Perfume performances were back in the early days, then this article will probably be interesting for you and, hopefully, convince you to buy this nice release. Let’s begin!

_______________________

An early but great performance

The live show for Fan Service: Bitter has been recorded on December 21 (2006) at the Harajuku Astro Hall for the “X’mas Special LIVE”, a very small yet well known venue in the famous fashion district of Tokyo, barely enough to contain the energy of the girls‘ dances and moves, thing that didn’t stop the trio to perform an entertaining and awesome show as always.

What mainly differs this live DVD from all the other shows that came after is without a doubt the tracklist: while classics such as Electro World, Perfume, and Perfect Star Perfect Style are still here, this is the only show where we can see performed their indie singles and songs that haven’t seen the light on their Complete Best album such as Counter Attraction, Imitation World, Oishii Recipi and Super Jet Shoes. The show flows very well and it’s focused on happy and energetic songs, and even though we can clearly see the great synchronization of the girls, a quality that will lead them to the more complicated and “serious” choreos that we all know today, most of the songs are more on the idol-ish side, giving this concert a very happy and thoughtless vibe. The girls put 100% of their energies as always and their interaction with the audience is more alive than ever, thanks also to the very small stage. The DVD also contains some curious backstage and reharsal footage, a nice add for all the fans that want to take a look at the girls’ life and routine before they became famous.

Even though this DVD made part of a BitterSweet project created for the end of their career, this performance actually shows how much of a shame would have been to let these three young yet incredibly talented girls go on their way back home.

Fan Service: Bitter is a short, enjoyable and funny performance that all the Perfume fans should watch to fully understand their career’s life, started from underground clubs to reach the glory in the biggest venues of Japan. In the end of this show, you’ll just be glad that A-chan, Nocchi and Kashiyuka didn’t leave us alone and kept staying with us.

Conclusions

Fan Service: Bitter is a worthy show that should be part of every Perfume fan collection as document of their early days and to fully understand their escalade to the huge success they’ve conquered. Would it be the first Live DVD to suggest to a new fan? Probably not, but those who are into this group in a while should definitely check out this performance and get ready to have some real fun.

This Live DVD has been release two times: On 2007 the First Press was released together with a A4 photobook in a very elegant shiny silver color, and today is definitely one of the rarest and most expensive Perfume items out there, even more than its coupling release Fan Service Sweet. One year later, on 2008, when the destiny of Perfume was saved, their label released another version of this concert composed only by the DVD alone without a photobook: Luckily, this one is easy to find in online stores but a little bit more difficult on real music shops in Japan, where it can be found more easily on used CDs stores.

In any case, it’s definitely worth buying. Links are just down here!

[POLL OF THE WEEK # 6] What would you like to see in the future of Perfume?

It’s Monday again, and it’s time again for a new Perfume Disco weekly poll!
The question for last week’s poll was: “Do you care about a JPN Live release?”

And here we go with the RESULTS!

Last week’s results!

With 49 votes the first option that supported an eventual Blu-Ray release won, but in the first days there’s been pretty much a struggle between this and the fans that don’t care that much about an HD release of the Hiroshima JPN show, seeing the second option in advantage in several moments: This clearly shows how the Perfume fandom is mixed with different feelings about this matter, even though the pre-orders of the new Perfume Live release started and it’s been pretty much confirmed that there won’t be a Blu-Ray release after all. How sad :(

________________________________________________

NEW POLL OF THE WEEK

As you have seen the last two polls were focused on actual arguments about Perfume, but this week I want to ask you something slightly different… something about the future of Perfume, and the things you would like to see from the girls in the next months! What would you like to see? New funny TV shows like the awesome “Happy! / Chandelier House”? Or maybe a new photobook like Perfume Portfolio/Livefolio? Or, again, a collaboration with another Japanese artist?

I’m pretty curious to know your opinions about it, so what are you waiting for?  The poll is already open in the right sidebar as always, so cast your vote right now and spread the voice!
A max of 3 options
can be selected for this poll! ;)

A look back at… Perfume Livefolio

Hi everybody guys, and welcome to another “A look back at…” article for this week!

This time I’m not gonna talk about a Perfume musical release, but about the second official Perfume photobook, which is Perfume Livefolio.

_______________________

Perfume Livefolio is the second official Perfume photbook, and also the very first close look to the Perfume live activities, with shots from the backstages and the life on the road while touring Japan promoting their successfull 3rd album Triangle. While the previous Perfume Portfolio was focused on on the girls’ image and beauty itself, this one mainly shows the true feeling of living a nationwide tour, with many funny moments during the reharsals, in the backstage and on the stage itself, with a great focus on the girls’ naturalness and expressivity.

Livefolio can also be considered a real document of their final Yokohama shows, the same that has been recorded for their masterpiece Perfume Triangle Tour 2009 DVD, with many shots of all the highlihts of the gigs, displaying at the best their first performances full of effects and a bigger and more spectacular stage than the more simple and underground GAMETOUR; From the epic Edge to the sexier and amazing Kiss and Music performance, this photobook, thanks also to some very appropriated black and white filters, completely shows the true vibe and feeling of living a Perfume concert.

But what makes this photobook excellent is the masterly balance between live shots and the “days-off” of the girls, with many pictures from their tourbus, hotels and also from the places around the venues and the cities they’ve visited during their tour, making this photobook a perfect balance of their more professional side, and the more natural look in the relaxing moments, making it a truly complete portfolio of their life as a group. From an overall point of view, we can say that Perfume Livefolio is the perfect mix between Portfolio and the Live @ Tokyo Dome photobooks, satisfying the fans that want to see not only their life on the stage, but also a bit of their more “fan service” and natural pics. Form an artistic point of view, maybe this is not their best book (Portfolio still remains the best on this point of view), but it’s definitely a must buy anyway for all the fans that want a beautiful document of Perfume’s life as a group.

Conclusions:

Perfume Livefolio is an excellent photobook that represents the most balanced product between the professional Perfume we know on the stage, and the more natural and funny girls we’ve learned to love over the years. Kazuaki Seki made another great work, giving us various moments of the girls’ life on the road and also a lot of stunning pictures representing their beauty at the best; Also, the choice to make it in a vertical format is very appropriated.
Maybe (and I say, maybe) it’s not the first photobook I’d suggest to buy from the girls, but still it remains a must buy for those who want to have a closer look at the girls’ career. Luckily, it’s still really easy to find nowadays for a very reasonable price, making it a great deal for all the fans interested in this kind of merchandise. Do you want a Blu-Ray release for the next Perfume JPN Live release? Let’s ask to the Perfume Staff!

As we all know, a week ago Perfume announced that on August 1st their new JPN Tour Live DVD will be released, but no infos about a Blu-Ray release have been revealed, a possible sign that there won’t be an High Definition release at all.

Yesterday I’ve opened a poll about this matter, and for the moment the Perfume fans that follows this blog are divided into those who care and those who can do less of an HD version of the JPN Hiroshima show. The results are interesting, so please keep voting if you haven’t yet!

Let’s face it though… A successful group like Perfume, one of the best acts of today’s scene of J-pop, with beautiful performances full of lasers and lights effects, representing a technopop and a near-futuristic concept that might go overseas in the next months, with a standard quality version only while many other artists and uknown acts in all the world have Blu-Ray releases since 2007 it’s kind of… incredible.

Wouldn’t you love to see such a gorgeous show on your TV in High Definition?

I know that Blu-Ray releases are expensive, and not everyone owns a PlayStation 3 system or any other Blu-Ray player but Perfume, as an important group in the Japanese music industry, needs to have more than a “simple” DVD version of their live shows. We knew that Tokuma would have never make them release a Blu-Ray, but now that the girls are in the Universal Music hands, one of the biggest labels in the world ready to take the girls overseas, a Blu-Ray release is more than important: It’s almost obligatory. And considering how the BR format is diffused in the world, especially in Japan, a commercial failure is simply impossible.

So what can we do? Probably nothing, but maybe there’s one thing we could try: The Perfume staff has a Twitter account, written in both english and japanese… is there any better chance to see if they will hear our calls? I know it’s probably more than late, but why surrender before starting, when posting a Tweet doesn’t take more than 10 seconds? Maybe they could plan a later release, which is better than nothing.

Many Japanese and international fans already tweeted their impressions to the Perfume Staff, so If you’re really interested about this matter, you could give it a try and spread the voice to other Perfume fans! ;)

That’s it guys, just a personal thought on a thing that’s pretty important in my opinion, so I wanted to spread the voice to the interested ones as more as possible. :)

See you soon here on Perfume Disco… Stay tuned! :)
